The pundits will tell you:
* Murmur is a seminal album in the formation of so-called "alternative" music;
* The deluxe edition features remastered sound (a significant improvement above the early generations of CD releases), as well as an entire second disc containing a previously unreleased concert recording from the same period; and
* Murmur is a seminal album in the formation of so-called "alternative" music
I won't repeat those points, but will simply add that 25 years later this album holds up remarkably well. These four Southern gentlemen crafted a subtle yet occasionally rocking album with a sense of world perspective that few artists ever attain. And this was R.E.M.'s debut. Hardly their best, but a pivotal record nonetheless.
